Xandar Kardian Inc. is a medical technology company founded in 2017, a Delaware corporation headquartered in Toronto, with research and development in Seoul and an office in New York. One radar, read against each person’s own normal, so care teams notice change before it becomes an event.

Care that notices.

Most of a patient's day is unobserved. We exist so that a change in someone's breathing or heart rate is noticed by the people looking after them, wherever they are, without asking the person to wear, charge or remember anything.

What we believe

Normal is personal.

A textbook range says little about one person. Every reading we make is compared with that person's own recent nights, so their care team sees a change from their normal, in neutral words.

How we work

Measured, not estimated.

We publish our validation, register our device in every market we sell in, and say plainly what is cleared, what is under study and what is not. Obsessed with the physics; careful with the claims.

The science

Impulse-radio radar, in the Wi-Fi range.

The XK300 transmits ultra-wideband pulses between 6.5 and 8.5 GHz at a transmit power below the regulatory limit for indoor devices, on the order of a tenth of a milliwatt. Because the wavelength sits in the same range as Wi-Fi, the pulse passes through bedding and a mattress the way Wi-Fi passes through a wall, and returns with the movement of the chest.

From that movement the sensor resolves breathing rate, heart rate, presence and motion, a reading every few seconds, and, under study, the fine pattern of the heartbeat itself. No camera, no microphone, nothing worn.

Our story

From a laboratory in Seoul to a bedroom wall.

2012The research begins at Hanyang University in Seoul: can an impulse-radio radar read a person's vital signs from across a room?
2015The breakthrough year. Breathing rate and heart rate measured by radar become accurate and stable enough to rely on.
2016The work starts to appear in peer-reviewed journals: vital signs, presence, sleep.
2017Xandar Kardian is founded, in Toronto and Seoul, to turn that research into a product.
2018First commercial deployments: presence and occupancy sensing in a Singapore serviced residence.
2019First peer-reviewed clinical validation of the breathing-rate measurement, published in Scientific Reports. Philips HealthWorks selects XK as one of fifteen start-ups from 2,500. JumpStarter in Hong Kong with the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund. Co-winner of the Dubai Future Foundation's Futurism programme. Sixteen pilots, five full deployments.
2020The company exhibits at CES in Las Vegas. Sleep-apnea study against polysomnography, 94 participants, published in Scientific Reports.
2021April: FDA 510(k) clearance, K202464. Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies. First deployments in Hong Kong correctional health and in North American senior living.

2025Health Canada licence. Distribution partnership for the United Kingdom. Deloitte Technology Fast 50 winner, number 36 in Canada, on 685% growth.
2026CES 2026: the XK300 Essence and Kardian Mini on the stand, and a place on the CES stage. Kardian, the consumer line, launches at kardian.com. A heart-failure research programme begins with cardiology centres in three jurisdictions. iF Design Award 2026. LSI Asia ’26. More than 49,000 people monitored to date.
